The artworks: “Soft Nap”, “Blue Garden, Warm Heart” and “Humming, Held, and Fed” are all connected. They all speak about welcoming a child into the world with love and care. This idea stemmed from my nephew's first New Years. January 1st is Haitian independence day and my family has a tradition of going to each other's houses to eat Soup Joumou and celebrate the day. This particular year was my youngest nephew's first time experiencing this. Everyone was very happy to see him and welcomed him into their homes with love
