Art Omi is one of my favorite residencies I've attended. I received the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation Fellowship to attend the residency, and I am honored and grateful to have had the opportunity. During the residency, I was able to meet so many artists from different cultures who made all kinds of art, from painting to performance to felted artworks.
While at Art Omi, I challenged myself to only make works that depicted plants and did not include any figures or collage. The works still had personal ideas behind them, but I wanted to challenge myself and not make figurative art just for the sake of it. Luckily, the residency had lots of plants and flowers, which I used as references for my paintings below. One of my favorite moments during the residency was making monoprints. Our workshop instructor, Anthony Kirk, was very patient while teaching printmaking which made me want to make even more prints.
